Logo Design: Hopkins Community Connections
Hopkins Community Connections, a student group that helps hospital patients navigate community resources and benefit programs, was looking for a new logo. After contacting the program manager, she responded saying that they were looking for a mostly black and white design. She also said it should be "something simple, as [they] often use the logo on small print items and want it to convey the 'connection' of what [they] do in the community." From there, I took it upon myself to brainstorm some ideas.
I came up with many ideas, but this is one of my favorites. Seeing as "Health Leads" was a phrase associated with the old logo, I put it on the belly of a blue jay (the university mascot). I love how I used the stethoscope to fill in some of the letters in "health."
Here's are two colored versions of the same design because I personally wanted to see what it might look like with a little color. I feel like yellow compliments the blue better, but realistically, blue jays have black beaks, not to mention black and blue are the school colors.
Here are some variations of the design without the blue jay.
The following are some of the different ideas I had as well as their variations. I like to play with size and font of an original concept to see if it leads to something better that the client might like.
Here I focused on the letters HCC, putting the mirrored C's in place of the H's midsection. The C's overlap to show a literal connection. In some versions I made the unit resemble a house since housing is one of the things this group helps patients with.
Here I made the midsection of the H a hand shake to emphasize the group's connection to the community and tried it with different related text.
Ultimately I received the following message saying that they no longer needed a logo, but this was a very cool project to work on nonetheless!
Hi Nicole, thank you for following back up here! We did a lot of research regarding the logo and learned from the hospital and marketing that we cannot make a separate logo as part of the Hopkins institution. We’re still exploring how to put our own mark on things without going against the branding requirements, and will certainly keep your generous offer to assist us in mind! You certainly have a talent for it and we’re grateful for your connection!

I will keep in touch if things change, best of luck to the start of the semester!
